  21.    This diskette contains drivers and programs for Windows 3.1 users who
  22.    have a Sound Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster Pro Basic.
  23.  
  24.    If you obtained the drivers and programs mentioned in this file as a ZIP
  25.    file from a bulletin board, please unzip the contents into a diskette
  26.    labeled

  50. III. Installing the drivers
  51. ---------------------------
  52.  
  53.    1. Start Windows v3.1.
  54.  
  55.    2. Open the Control Panel and select the Drivers icon.
  56.  
  57.    3. You should have the following driver names in the Installed Drivers
  58.       list:
  59.  
  60.             MIDI Mapper
  61.             Timer
  62.             [MCI] CD Audio
  63.             [MCI] MIDI Sequencer
  64.             [MCI] Sound
  65.  
  66.       If you have other drivers installed, please remove them with the
  67.       REMOVE button and restart Windows before continuing.  If any of these
  68.       drivers are not listed, please add them before continuing.  (See your
  69.       Windows manual for details on adding these drivers.)  Make sure you
  70.       restart Windows after making changes to the driver list.
  71.    
  72.    4. Click on the ADD button.
  73.  
  74.    5. Select Unlisted or Updated driver and click on OK.
  75.  
  76.    6. Insert the floppy containing the drivers.
  77.  
  78.    7. Type in the drive letter of the floppy drive containing the driver disk.
  79.  
  80.    8. Select Sound Blaster Pro Auxiliary Audio and click on OK.
  81.  
  82.    9. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address.  The default
  83.       I/O address is 220H.  If you have changed the jumper on your card to
  84.       240H, then select 240H.
  85.  
  86.   10. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  87.       DON'T RESTART, then repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7.
  88.  
  89.   WARNING! - Steps 11 and 12 will OVERWRITE your existing MIDIMAP.CFG
  90.              configuration.  If you want to keep your existing configuration,
  91.              click on CANCEL and make a copy of MIDIMAP.CFG before continuing
  92.              the installation process.
  93.  
  94.   11. Select Voyetra / Sound Blaster SuperSADI FM Drivers and click on OK.
  95.  
  96.   12. Windows will ask if you want to use the current MIDIMAP.CFG
  97.       or install the new MIDIMAP.CFG - Select NEW and continue on.
  98.  
  99.   13. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address.
  100.       Repeat the instructions in step 9.
  101.  
  102.   14. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  103.       DO NOT RESTART, then repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7.
  104.  
  105.   15. Select Sound Blaster Pro Wave and MIDI and click on OK.
  106.  
  107.   16. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address, Interrupt, and
  108.       DMA channel. Choose the settings your card is set to and continue on.
  109.  
  110.   17. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  111.       RESTART.  Windows will then restart.
  112.  
  113.   18. An additional Windows applications is provided.  The filename is
  114.       MMJBOX.EXE.  Please copy it into your Windows directory.
  115.  
  116. IV. What to do if the drivers don't install correctly
  117. -----------------------------------------------------
  118.  
  119.    If you are having problems installing the drivers, here are some things to
  120.    check before you call Technical Support.  Also, be sure to read the
  121.    "Important Notes" section below.
  122.  
  123. ** 1. If you installed Windows 3.1 using the "Express Installation,"  Windows
  124.       scanned your hard disk for programs to be installed.  As a result, older
  125.  
  126.       versions of the Jukebox, and Mixer were installed if they were on your
  127.       hard disk at the time of installation.  Please remove these icons.  To
  128.       do this, click on the icon once to select it, then press the delete key.
  129.       Windows will ask you for confirmation.  Repeat for each icon.
  130.  
  131.    2. Check the size and date of all the driver files in the Windows SYSTEM
  132.       directory against the listing in the section "Diskette Contents".  Make
  133.       sure that the correct drivers have been copied to your hard disk.
  134.  
  135.    3. Open the Driver applet in Control panel.  You should at least have the
  136.       following driver names in the Installed Drivers list:
  137.  
  138.             Creative Sound Blaster Pro Auxiliary Audio
  139.             Creative Sound Blaster Pro Wave and MIDI
  140.         Voyetra / Sound Blaster SuperSAPI FM Drivers 
  141.             MIDI Mapper
  142.             Timer
  143.             [MCI] CD Audio
  144.             [MCI] MIDI Sequencer
  145.             [MCI] Sound
  146.  
  147.       If one or more of these drivers do not exist, you must install the
  148.       driver(s) using the Driver applet in Control Panel (See the Windows
  149.       manual for more details).
  150.  
  151.    4. Check your SYSTEM.INI by choosing RUN from the File menu of the Program
  152.       Manager, and typing SYSEDIT in the command line box.  Examine the
  153.       [drivers] and [sndblst.drv] sections.  They should look something like
  154.       this:

  169.    5. If Windows refuses to install a device driver or you get the error
  170.       message "Device not found" when playing a Wave or MIDI file or a
  171.       CD, be sure you have the following settings in the [mci] section of
  172.       SYSTEM.INI
  173.  
  174.               [mci]
  175.               WaveAudio=mciwave.drv
  176.               Sequencer=mciseq.drv
  177.               CDAudio=mcicda.drv
  178.  
  179.       If one or more of these do not exist, you must install the driver(s)
  180.       using the Driver applet in Control Panel (See the Windows manual for
  181.       instructions).  Do not type in the entries into the SYSTEM.INI because
  182.       the files have to be installed into your SYSTEM directory by Windows.

  185. V. If you upgraded from Windows 3.0 to Windows 3.1
  186. --------------------------------------------------
  187.  
  188.    If you upgraded an existing copy of Windows 3.0 or Windows 3.0 with
  189.    Multimedia Extensions to Windows 3.1, here are some special notes to
  190.    consider.
  191.  
  192.    1. If you have a line which reads "device=vsbd.386" in the [386Enh] section
  193.       of SYSTEM.INI, please delete it.  This is an old driver which has been
  194.       replaced by VSBPD.386.  The new driver will not work correctly until this
  195.       line is removed.
  196.  
  197.    2. Delete the file SBPMIXER.CPL in the Windows SYSTEM directory.  It is no
  198.       longer being supported.  The new SBPMIXER.EXE is now used instead and is
  199.       loaded automatically when you install the Sound Blaster drivers.
  200.  
  201.    3. After installing Windows 3.1, verify that the latest SBPMIXER.EXE,
  202.       MMJBOX.EXE, SBP2FM.DRV, SBPAUX.DRV and SBPSND.DRV have been copied to
  203.       your hard disk.  Check the size and date of these files against the
  204.       listing in the section "Diskette Contents".  You can delete any older
  205.       versions that you find in your system.

  208. VI. Important notes
  209. -------------------

  213.  
  214.    1. The drivers found in the file CREATE.EXE on Microsoft's BBS and in the
  215.       Microsoft Forum on CompuServe are not the latest drivers for Windows 3.1
  216.       and may not work properly.  Please do not use them.
  217.  
  218.    2. The drivers that are included with the Windows 3.1 Resource Kit are not
  219.       the lastest drivers and may not work properly.  Please do not use them.
  220.  
  221.    3. We are including drivers that make use of Device Virtualization.  These
  222.       drivers will allow DOS Apps that use the Sound Blaster to run in Enhanced
  223.       Mode.
  224.  
  225.       Please make sure that a line reading "device=vsbpd.386" exists under the
  226.       [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI.  If you have a line which reads
  227.       "device=vsbd.386", please delete it.  Also, make sure the file VSBPD.386
  228.       is in your Windows SYSTEM directory.  If it is not, copy it from the
  229.       Drivers Disk.
  230.  
  231.    4. The Windows 3.1 drivers can now be used in both Windows 3.0 with
  232.       Multimedia extensions as well as Windows 3.1.  They will check the
  233.       Windows version and use the correct Sound Blaster section name to access
  234.       the settings in the SYSTEM.INI.
  235.  
  236.    5. A MIDI-MAP has been created to make use of the SBP2FM.DRV, please use the
  237.       MIDI MAPPER icon under Control Panel to customize it to your requirements.
  238.  
  239.       Under Windows 3.1, MIDI channel 10 is referenced as the drum channel.
  240.       If you are having problems with the FM synth not sounding "right", try
  241.       modifying the configuration with the MIDI Mapper.
  242.
